How we check
We check public services using website requests or server connections. Each status page identifies its check method.
What does reachable mean?
An HTTP response between 200 and 399 counts as reachable. We follow up to five redirects. Login, payment and other individual features are not tested.
When do we report an outage?
After connection errors, timeouts or other HTTP errors, we repeat the check after two seconds. We only mark an outage if the retry also fails. This reflects our monitoring location; regional conditions may differ.
Inconclusive and missing measurements
HTTP 401, 403 and 429 may indicate access protection or rate limits. The website status is then inconclusive. We additionally check DNS, TCP and, for HTTPS, the TLS handshake. A successful server connection is displayed as additional information and does not change the inconclusive website status.
Server connection without a page request
For services with access protection, administrators can choose the server connection method. This checks DNS resolution, the TCP connection to the configured host and, for HTTPS, a TLS handshake with a valid certificate. Availability checks send no HTTP request. Public page metadata is retrieved separately, normally once daily in English. This describes infrastructure availability and does not confirm page content, login, search or checkout. A CDN may be reachable while the application behind it is failing.
Charts and outages always reflect the selected check method. Website and server measurements are stored separately. After switching methods, the current status remains pending until the first new measurement.
Measurements older than two check intervals, with a minimum of 15 minutes, are marked as stale. Paused services are identified separately.
How are the charts generated?
Individual checks are aggregated into hourly and daily totals. Availability is the proportion of successful checks among all conclusive checks. Inconclusive and missing measurements do not count as successful. Brief outages between checks may go undetected.
An independent service
We are not affiliated with monitored providers. Service names are used solely for identification. The neutral icons are our own design.
